Polonsky Principle #222

Let me tell you what inspired this thought.

My wife and I are close friends with a couple who have set up dozens of people for marriage, and fun fact, they’re the ones who convinced my wife to go on a date with me.

They’re basically professional matchmakers, except they do it for free.
Recently, the wife told us about a man she’s trying to set up, a 51-year-old billionaire, good-looking, kind, and apparently a great catch. But what she said next really caught my attention:
“His dating resume is like a two-page catalog, color, photos, personal philosophy, quotes, stories. You know who he is just by reading it.”

This woman is an entrepreneur, and she knows talent when she sees it.

She said, “He doesn’t just stand out, he communicates who he is.”

And that got me thinking…

When Was the Last Time You Updated YOUR Resume?

If your resume looks the same as it did 10 years ago or worse, 30 years ago, it’s probably dead.

The truth is, resumes today are not just about experience and formatting. They’re about brand.

Your “resume” isn’t just a Word document anymore. It’s your LinkedIn profile, your publications, your digital footprint, your voice online.

As recruiters, we’re not only evaluating credentials, we’re evaluating identity, relevance, and energy.

The Modern Resume Is a Mirror of You

A resume with life has:
• Character — it reflects your leadership style and voice.
• Color — not just design, but depth and dimension.
• Clarity — it tells your story in a way that’s unmistakably you.

When done right, your resume doesn’t just say what you’ve done — it shows who you are and where you’re going next.

The Takeaway

In a world where information is everywhere, people aren’t buying what you do; they’re buying who you are.

Your resume is still a valuable tool, but only if it breathes life into your brand.

So if it looks like it did a decade ago, it’s time to evolve.
Bring it to life. Update your story.
And make sure the first impression truly sounds like you.
